The Steam Vehicles.

Updated: Dec 16, 2023

The model train layout of the museum has been intricately designed by Graham MacDonald. There are a lot of different elements that you might find fascinating. One of these is the steam-powered vehicles. Before the use of fuel became prominent, the vehicles ran on coal. Some of these vehicles were tractors, ships, trains, road rollers and many more. In the layout of the museum, you can find a steam-powered tractor.

Steam-powered Tractor

Earlier models of the tractors used the power of the steam engine itself to power a drive train to move the machine and were first known as "traction drive" engines which eventually were shortened to "tractor".

Steam-powered road roller

Also known as "steamroller,", the steam-powered road rollers can be traced back to 1859 when the first steamroller was patented in France by Louis Lemoine. According to the Western Development Museum, Waterous Engine Co. Ltd was the only company in Canada that made the steamrollers.

There are a lot of interesting things to see on the layout. you can enjoy the minute details that were added during the making of this mesmerizing piece. You can learn more about the history of the trains in Ontario by visiting the museum.
